For many of us, working out in hot weather sounds like our worst nightmare. But even if slogging through a fitness routine during the dog days of summer sounds like hell, hot weather workouts may actually give you a huge training boost! So how can you sweat it out safely and achieve results? Follow our tips below:

Put on your game face. This is Survivor, this is Tough Mudder, this is a challenge! Don’t worry about the dirt and grime, and push through to your limits.

Be aware of your body. There’s a difference between pushing yourself for results and overworking your physical capacity. Pay attention! Start slow and work up to your peak. If you feel dizzy, faint, or nauseous, cool down and take steps to calm your body.

Wear the right gear. Moisture-wicking polyester can mean the difference between a relatively comfortable sweat and getting drenched. Find workout clothes made of performance fabrics that will keep your body dry and cool.

Drink lots of water! Avoid sports drinks and go for coconut water instead. These are full of electrolytes and nourishing minerals to keep your body happy and healthy. Drink often, but don’t overdo it.

Protect your skin with sunscreen, wear a cap, and put on light-colored clothing with a high SPF.

Warm-up and cool down in shady, covered areas that will protect you from the sun and keep your body temperature balanced till it’s time to go.

Take a swim! Water naturally cools, and swimming is one of the best full-body workouts out there.
